Having an oval border is used to represent seeing through her eyes, her last image of him before she dies.
Using my own photos, my focus for the song was the daunting story behind the song which is about Richard Ashcroft's grandma with a terminal illness dying in hospital. He speaks of the drug's not working anymore but he knows he will see her face again.
The first image, using a picture of a friend with similar hair and stature to the lead singer, resembles the dark reality of the song and her last vision of him being there for her. The blur represents the fading away of her life and blurring of the face to refer to knowing they will see eachother again one day. The image was taken with a sunset behind to add the positive of this song, his singing to her that he is going to see her again in heaven but through development this didn't come through.
With the second image, this is also why the face is blurred. The image is to resemble her as a young woman, as within the song he references her dislike of talking getting old, that it is getting her down. Having her young memory there but the face blurred until they meet again is the intention of this image, although I felt really sad making it.
The last was done to try and emphasize that the man is supposed to be the lead singer by being slightly clearer showing the hair and such with more light in the back perhaps representing the glimpse of hope/a heaven input? However in the end me and Chris decided the blurry one was more realistic and true to the song. Keeping in touch with our designs is important as a collaborative team.
My designs are usually very full and slightly flamboyant, but to stay true to this songs sad backstory and theme I felt simplicity of his image behind the last she sees fits well with the song itself, and his hope that she is thinking of him.
The black and white tones show his sadness and the bleak severity of the situation.
