Research brief 10: Exhibition inspiration/more image research

I found it hard to find a lot of exhibitions reachable that would relate to this topic, therefore searching through archives and past exhibitions to get more artist names to contact and see different takes on designing for positive wellbeing as research for my pop up banners.

Cultural experiences can help improve health and wellbeing, and can result in benefits that range from the physiological to the emotional. Close encounters with culture can offer an escape from the pressure of modern living by providing a space within which to reflect-Whitworth Manchester

Honestly when trying to find specifically relevant exhibition images, it always comes back to Studio Myerscough images of her designs in hospitals showing this project is worth exploring as it is perhaps overlooked in the real world.

Exhibition

One exhibition I managed to go to was 'And Breathe...' which opened 16th March at Manchester Art Gallery. These images reminded me of those in CBT rooms, of landscapes painted in abstract and expressive ways with calming colours, which was also where 'Mindfullness' was promoted as well as in this exhibition, with the title 'and breathe...'.

It was amazing to see an exhibit that was put together by communities specifically involved in mental health and I see this as a useful therapy for them to create and paint as part of their mental health journey. However, my brief is to cohabit a meet up to talk rather than meditate so this has to be considered. Perhaps not as many blue colours as this expresses their sadness/focus/soothing rather than a space to uplift conversation.

Taking from the style of images I have seen in these spaces on this subject so far, creating shapes with paint strokes using an element of self expression and honesty may be useful to consider.

The colour scheme, seating, height of art works and interpretation have all been developed to encourage people to spend time in the space and a special audio resource with a range of timed mindful meditations will be available.
