Brief 4: Mink lashes project feedback and visual research

It was agreed within feedback the target audience of protest/activist consumers such as Lush customers, whom of a lot protest (shown in initial research) wether it be traditional protest or through expressing their views through their lifestyle, or through wearing protest. Pins, stickers, badges, patches and tote bags were all agreed to be appropriate ways of expressing this protest campaign.

I was given artists who do these kinds of pins, and can look at the most affective ways of illustrating and arranging these pieces.

On this project led by Jessica Walsh's 'pins wont save the world' she also branches out to posters, phone cases, and t shirts which can be mocked up. the designs are consistent and are bold enough to be transferred to different products.

Thick legible lines, strong shape and popping colours will grab the attention of passersby on the person wearing or showing these mico protests against using mink fur for eyelashes. Using my slogans in harmony with an illustration or as stand alone instantly communicates the message.Georgia Perry, along with pins and patches also using designs for keyrings socks and stationary, is also a useful example of the range of designs you can create that are simple and strong enough to communicate the message instantly.

stickers by Kate Prior embody the strong text and line work I aim to create, but won't be aiming for same tone of voice as this is a serious issue and will be more contained for product outcome

Lush's merchandise section where the funds are donated directly to causes and give the customer a way of expressing their beliefs and supporting the cause.
Their customers are...
activists, like to show support through merch
aren't afraid to be bold with their statements/tongue in cheek
cruelty free
proud

An important lesson from visually researching these artists is-
designs need to be boldly versatile
straight to the point with no confusion
stand out colour and linework
the designs are fun and lighthearted making them approachable and understandable to a wider audience these messages and protests are being expressed to, creating awareness.

I will begin to sketch designs to vectorise and begin to apply colour. A colour pallette would work best for them to link and be conceptually sold as a set. One worry discussed is the cost of making badges and patches due to the costly proccess but I am definetly going to aim to get these actually made!!!
