Brief 6: Illustrated beauty packaging

I AM NOW DOING THE PENGUIN BOOK AWARD AS A SMALL BRIEF FOR BRIEF 6 INSTEAD

Being illustrated would represent the beauty industry a whole lot more as it is all done by hand. Illustrated packaging/brand identity can reflect the market but also the playfullness and possibilities of the makeup. The juvias place packaging, throughout most of the product reviews I find, are complimentary of the 'fun' and bright packaging making it grab attention of consumers straight away. I looked for other examples of illustrated packaging and how it expresses the product, brand, and audience.

'We illustrated our packaging with drawings conjuring up local tapestry and fabric patterns with scenes of rural life. We wish it to be an extension of hospitality in our poetic land of beauty.”'
Represents the heritage of the brand/product/ingredients

'With designs this eye-catching, you can’t miss them.' Designed with a classic signature look in mind to reach to a loyal female makeup audience.

Soap and Glory are famous for their retro pinup packaging which is hyper feminine, often using female models. I want to showcase the makeup without hyper femininity and using just females by making it gender fluid

This kind of illustration is also seen on a recent advert for herbal essences- it is a theme amongst advertising beauty products directed at women to showcase the fantasy and ideal result from the product

'In an informal survey of the R29 office, the overwhelming response to, "Do you buy beauty products based on their packaging?" was, "Hell, yes." As one staffer put it, "I'm a sucker and prefer to look at pretty things. I want my vanity (and, okay, even bathroom cabinet) to look glamorous because it makes me feel like I'm living a more successful, impressive, grown-up existence." Another employee admitted to decanting products into prettier bottles if he thinks they look too tacky to display.'

The packaging will be aesthetically pleasing but most importantly celebrates the use of makeup for both genders. Will sell the idea of genderless 'beauty'. Redefining and bringing the new popularity of androgynous beauty gurus to the shelves from social media.
