Own exhibition initial ideas

Over Easter, as a team we have agreed to consider solid themes of security, 30's rich uperclass and 60's pop art inspired theme. The last week we worked on this together was brilliant, as with 6 of us we were never low on varied ideas and aspirations for the exhibition plan! We narrowed it down to these distinct themes to work upon exploring our own ideas and those we had already noted down in discussions.

Having time to really think about how the exhibition could be different and having ideas that can all link together, I am going to post and note this before I go in to discussion. A name possibly being 'rich', 'our riches' or 'enriched' as these are super unique ideas that are exhibited once, and it is an appealing name relating to money and what most of the population aspire for, to be rich or enriched.

Since starting Uni I havent made mooboards very much but as this is such a complex project with so many possibilities and ideas surrounding it, seeing the key elements of my ideas put together makes it easier to explain on here and to my group.

I really love the inpired theme of Andy Warhol's money piece, as it has a vivid range of colours which for an advertising campaign and promotion, would catch peoples attention and gives way of experimentation of methods other than digital. I however linked this to the benday dot affect achieved on photoshop with 'halftone', which gives the look of moneys texture and design in a mild way, tying it in with existing knowledge of moneys design to us all.

A next key element of my visions for this, is something I have never gone for before, but using graphic cubes based on the structure of the bankhouse. When I first saw the image placed on the top left I couldn't help think it was a brilliant angle and a good angle on the building which I have heard can be overlooked normally? Using graphic cube styles, using colours either of leeds college of arts logo celebrating our university, or pop art contrasting colours could either become crazy or could be spread out across the whole exhibitions outcomes such as the posters, the wall details, the floor, parts we include etc. This also represents the platform the exhibition is to us, gaining us and the university recognition and helping us climb in our design skills. Also, the blocks could represent us all building on this together, the building blocks so to speak? This was a vision I had for an initial idea of the blocks being gold bars with the symbols on, that reminded me of the lit advertisements you see in photos of Tokyo, however this could be too flashy for what we all have established on as a vision from our group.

The folded over look could fold over existing symbols to have a question mark in the centre of our title which we are yet to decide as a group once we get back, which is going to be exciting! 6 of us having strong visions of what it could be is going to make it easier yet stronger and more imaginative then a lot of standard exhibition identities which I often think play it too safe, I want this to be sophisticated and professional but unforgettable.

Placing these symbols on the blocks, and on the biggest block, having the symbol '?' to entice people in to seeing what our take is on currency. This is all backed up from our discussions, the location, our university, and moneys existing symbols, and what comes next in our exhibitions vision.

As well as the identity, parts to consider which I believe the loudest designs and the identity should be pushed in, is as you walk in there is the introductory corridor. I want to emphasize this to make the exhibition more anticipated as you walk through the door and as we cannot distract from the artwork inside the main room, this part has the opportunity to be very strong in our theme/identity. I would really like a part with our design to be lit up/fill a space for people to take photos with and hashtag our event, such as the headrow house designs we were told about by those who designed, who were from LCA! I have seen these be interacted with so much, I am going to push for this and can see this 60's pop art inspired identity working perfectly.

Perhaps the vent in the middle could be a vault,in which people leave feedback or write what money means to them? If it were up to me I would have a huge piggy bank in which people put their feedback in but as a team this isn't one of the strongest ideas. Perhaps we could go forward with our coin machine, which would be an amazing way to gain donations as perhaps a lot of the time people wouldnt? Interaction I feel is very important as it makes the exhibit memorable and promotes the exhibit and LCA students all around.

I am excited to come to the team with this vision and hear about theirs, and the rest will come once our identity is strong. I believe we have a decent chance as I am working with some of the most reliable and inspiring in the class and am eager to get this started.

Further designs involving the lines could include fingerprints and bank card patterns aswell as symbols, futuristic view of money/currency/identity tying in with the security and futuristic element.

Having backlit screens such as the ones Alphabet designed for Headrow house on the vent in the centre would be a great social media promotion and interaction, but also a brilliant lighting option for the room and on to our design work which I have discussed is important to not be overshadowed or lit in a way that would distract from fine details. These screens would be each bespoke different variations of our identity and theme including symbols/fingerprints/quotes relating to our name?

Having the walls and placing of the artwork itself should be classic like one of our team explored relating to the 1930's. The highest class banks are how banks want to be seen and are envisioned such as in Harry Potter, with chandeliers and classical marbled floor details, which we probably are limited in doing but maybe details can be added to the floor and the artwork displayed in a classic way on the same levels so none are made more important than others, and lit in a sophisticated way. This would not be extremely confusing next to our 60's inspired theme, overall it would make it more thought out whilst not overcomplicating the displaying of the work which I think could go wrong if it was done so, due to the amount of work and how different everyones pieces will be. 60's decor seems as if it would be way too over the top and distracting, and rather odd to immerse in whilst seeing the work.
